Polar Bear to return to Groudle Glen

July/August 2016

Polar Bear going home to celebrate 120th Anniversary of the opening
of the Groudle Glen Railway

Polar Bear pilots Sea Lion towards Sea Lion Rocks terminus.

Arrangements have been concluded for the transport of Amberley Museum's locomotive Polar Bear to the Isle of Man to take part in the celebrations marking the 120th Anniversary of the opening of the Groudle Glen Railway. Polar Bear will be reunited with elder sister Sea Lion and also meet, for the first time, Brown Bear, a clone of Polar Bear being constructed by the Groudle Glen Railway using Bagnall's original drawings.

It is planned that Polar Bear will operate public trains on the Groudle Glen Railway on Sunday 24 July, Wednesday 27 July (all day), Sat/Sun 30/31 July, Wednesday evening 3 August and Sunday 7 August. Polar Bear will travel back to Amberley to arrive in time for its scheduled duties at the Museum on Sunday 14 August.

Polar Bear will be accompanied by your usual friendly team of Amberley steam loco crews so if you come to the Island for the event please be sure to say hello.

Tip: The beer's good as well!
